I am not getting notifications when mail is received when the mail app is closed.
I believe I was before a few days ago. And on iOS I don't need the app opened to get notifications.

Mail on the desktop does not get email while closed. It has no underlying mechanism to notify you of messages waiting on the server.

For some reason I thought I had been getting them with it closed, I guess I was mistaken.
I expected it would work like iOS or even like Messages on Mac.
