How do I preview a web link in Safari on mac

Hello,

I'm pretty sure I used to be able to hover over a link to see its URL on other OS's. The closest I have found to this on my Mac is to copy the link, and then paste it to see where its taking me.

Is there a setting I can change to preview it without having to do this?

Thanks

MacBook Air 11″, macOS 11.5

FWIW, if I hover over a link the URL is shown on the bottom left corner of Safari's window.
