What adapter do I need to connect my MacBook to my iPhone XR. The Mac only came with one cord that isn’t compatible with anything but a charger.

Hello. Assuming your MacBook Pro only has USB-C ports, you will need a USB-C to USB adapter or USB-C to Lightning Cable. This is detailed in the guide here.
