My mouse pointer on the screen disappearing?

For some apps that's a feature that keeps the pointer from covering your typing space. I like the "shake to activate" feature but not everybody does.

You do clarify built-in trackpad pointer or external mouse pointer...

Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

(get at least two-three rounds of the chimes when holding the NRAM Reset)
