My Macbook Pro (2013, pre-Retina) Won't Edit a Shared Pages Document

I edit a shared Pages document which is edited by multiple users on macbook and iPad. My Macbook Pro (2013, pre-Retina) won't update past Catalina, and won't update to the latest version of Pages. It can open and read the shared document but refuses to edit. When I try to edit, it states that to collaborate on this document I must first update to a new version of Pages (the one I cannot update to on my 2013 MacBook). Other than switching to MS Word, how do I fix this ?

Take a look at the minimum system requirements in Apple's Intro to collaboration in Pages. They are not lying to you, and as you cannot update to Big Sur or later, you are no longer able to edit shared documents on your 2013 MacBook Pro.

Switch to MS Word.
