External Apple SuperDrive A1379 Not Working

Running Big Sur on a MBPro and USB to USB-C adapter, the drive at first hums very quickly then shows a message, Connect "Apple USB.." to a USB port on this Mac."

Since this Mac does not have USB ports, I must use an adapter. I've tried various one I have, all of which work with other add-on devices, but will not work with the Super Drive. Other than it being not so "super," are there other suggestions to use to troubleshoot?

Thank you.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities.

You need to use an official Apple USB-C to USB Adapter - Apple. Connect the USB SuperDrive with the adapter directly to your Mac.
