Apple TV Stuttering

I am having the same ATV 4K stuttering problem reported by others. Internet connection through Comcast is fast but ATV goes blank for a second every couple of minutes particularly when streaming content from Apple and from Hulu. But I've seen it on all of the streaming services during the past several months. This never happens when streaming directly on Comcast services. Disconnections and resets do not help.

This usually indicates a poor internet connection where the Apple TV is located. Speed of your connection is one thing, however if the Apple TV is located in a area where the Wi-Fi signal strength is not strong then you may have problem with your network which may require a network upgrade.

If your home is 1500 sq. ft. or larger, you have more than 5-10 wi-fi networking devices or your home has more than 1 level then signal strength may be the issue. You can use a tool such as iStumbler to measure the wi-fi signal strength where the Apple TV is located. If that sounds like you then a Mesh Network may be what you need.

Also, you can try following to see if you just need to reset the network. Please do the following:

  1. Unplug your modem from its power source and Restart Modem.
  2. Unplug your router from its power source and Restart router.
  3. Unplug Apple TV from Power for 2-3 minutes – re-plug in and retest.
