How to copy photos from my iPhone to my computer

The iCloud backup does not allow me to keep all the photos I took using my iPhone and free up the space on the phone - once I delete the photos from my phone, the next backup will also delete my old photos from the backup. This is NOT what I want. I would like to copy ALL the photos from my phone to my computer and save them there. I can then delete some photos from my phone to free up the space. How can I do that?? Appreciate advice and help!
