With a 2015 MacAir and a single Thunderbolt 2 port, what Adapter do I need to drive a Dell VGA monitor?

Having been unsuccessful using a Tripp-Lite multi output( VGA, Display and HDMI) and Mini Display input, I need to know which Apple Adapter will absolutely drive a Dell VGA monitor . All the Support articles are a bit less than highly specific enough to answer this question. I do not wish to buy another adapter unless I am certain that it will drive the Dell monitor.

The adapter I have in hand is similar to the one you shared, but also incorporates an HDMI female receptacle.

Thus far, no signal is apparent on the Dell monitor when the adapter is connected to the monitor and MacAir via Mini Display port.

I powered down and back up both the monitor and saw no change in behavior (screen remained blank).

Is there some setting I need to make on the Display Setting (I selected mirror) otherwise?

Seems the adapter I have should work, but my steps might be incomplete. Any suggestions? Thanks Phil.
