iMac stuck trying to "check for updates" in System Preferences

The badge on System Preferences says I have one update to download. When I try, the app just gets stuck with the spinning spoke wheel and the download never takes place. My internet connection is OK and the apple server status is green on your system status.

Attached is a screenshot of the last two softwares showing up in System Preferences > Installations if that means anything. Also a screenshot of the "checking" pane. No progress bar shows up.

I've tried stopping and starting my wireless connection.

iMac late 2014, Big Sur 11.6.2 ( not eligible for Monterrey update)
