Use of iMac 24"as a monitor for a Mac Mini

I need a Mac that runs an older version of the OS and have been given an old Mac mini. Can I use my new iMac 24" as a monitor for the Mac Mini?

Sorry, no. new Macs cannot do target display mode:

You can use most any external display and even some HDMI TVs with a Mac Mini.

Thanks - I was trying to avoid having to obtain another monitor and to find room for it on my desk!
