Delete Key removes space too

I use my delete key to remove to the left of the cursor.

I don't remember it doing this before, but I work on Safari quite a bit and now am noticing that when I'm deleting a word, the space before it also deletes. So when I type the right spelling, there is no longer a space between the words. It's driving me crazy and I can't figure out how or why this is a thing suddenly.

I've cleared my cache and cookies to try and cure it.

I've searched online and here and can't find a thing...which tells me it may be something I did.

I really don't want to use a different browser.

Thank you to anyone who can help!

If you have another keyboard try connecting that and compare your results.

To trouble shoot further you can:

—Test issue in another user (or guest user) account Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac - Apple Support

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.

—SafeBoot How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Takes a bit longer to get to the login screen, does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

In Safe mode third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled, it removes malware, etc hampering smooth operation, however a reboot will put it back to normal mode.

This test will tell you if third party interference; extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus

all known to cause issues on the macOS

1 - Restart in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.

2 - Does the issue present in this mode ?

3 - Sometimes a Safe Boot followed by a Normal Boot will just put things right.

4 - If not - there could be something in the main User Account playing up. To further isolate this - Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac. Then log out of the Main User account and log into the dummy account and test again if the issue persists.

5 - If the issue is present in the dummy account - then, this appears to be a System Wide issue on the computer.

6 - If after performing each of the above steps is the order that have been presents  and still have issues - please advise for possible further assistance.

Yes, I think you might be right that it is a part of spell check. I reset to defaults.

I'm usually putting together my thoughts while backspacing quickly to make a change or correct spelling.

Generally one word at a time...and if I go to the beginning of the word, it just jumps one extra to remove the space too. It does not jump an extra space if I'm leaving the first letter or letters intact.

I am in Safe Mode now....but it's unusable. There is a lag with everything I do, so I cannot use the websites where I work and experience the most issues.

It doesn't seem to be happening in this window, however. So maybe I will find that Safe Boot will solve all my issues!?!

I wonder if I should upgrade to Mojave. I wait longer than most because of Adobe applications issues.

Thank you for asking.

The purpose of Safe Mode is not to be used permanently.

By restarting in Safe Mode:

1) you determine if the same problem occurs or not;

2) Since Safe Mode clears some system caches, and sometimes a corrupt cache causes issues, this may actually resolve the problem

3) If the issue returns when you restart normally, then you know that some third party software that is not loaded in Safe Mode is playing a part in the problem.

If the situation is this, then we need more information to try and find the cause. Please run Etrecheck and post its full report here. Use the "additional text" button and paste the report into the text box.

Yes.... I understand. Now. 😁

I work for support for a games company...I was trying to get it to happen once with Safe Mode on, but I couldn't get to the point where I could answer a question with the lag on Safe Mode.

However, I think it may be solved now! So whatever cache was holding that information, it must have been sorted with doing Safe Boot only.

Thank you all for the best answers!

I will be running these kinds of checks regularly now.
