apple mail 11.5

I have been updating OS on several of my computers. During that time I have ended up with 2 copies of each of the mail boxes I created for keeping opened mail. I was in the process of eliminating 1 copy when both copies disappeared. So, I open the second computer to look for them and they were present in the second computer's mail. While I was going through them and re-distributing some mail...they disappeared. What in the world!!! Can someone help me get back my mailboxes?

Sounds like its an IMAP account ^ they were deleted on one Mac, then the other Mac will delete them when it next connects to the Internet.

Quick, Quit Mail on both, login to your WebMail in aBrowser and see if they still exist in trash, or All Mail, etc.

Ok, they aren't even showing the Smart Folder icon, nor any folder icon...

Quit Mail.

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes or more.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

Manually Rebuilding Spotlight via Terminal

If the aforementioned Spotlight control panel approach doesn’t spur a reindexation of the drive, you may need to initiate it manually through the command line. Open Terminal and use the following command string to do so:

sudo mdutil -E /

This basically asks for temporary super user status, which is why Terminal may ask you for your password (it may not if you’ve used a sudo command recently or are already logged in as a super user or root. The command asks the unix tool mdutil to reindex the spotlight database for everything on the computer, including external drives, mounted disk images, etc. To re-index only for a specific drive, use the /Volumes path. For example, for an external drive named “MiniMe,” the command would look like this:

sudo mdutil -i on /

Rebuilding a drive index can take a long time, so be prepared to wait whether you do it through the System Preference panel or the command line.

If still need be…

Open Terminal and run each of these one at a time

/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user

sudo /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -kill -seed -lint -r -f -v -dump -domain local -domain system -domain user -domain network

killall Dock

sudo mdutil -E /

sudo mdutil -i on /

I had already been in touch with my service because my mail was being stuffed into "smart mailbox" that the system set up. I don't use SM in my mail, almost everything was declared SPAM. I thought I got that straightened out with my service when my old mailboxes were duplicated. There is nothing of my mailboxes on their servers. My main computer does have a different OS (Catalina) on it and the mailboxes are intact. I will try to export what I need and re-install on the laptops. The other thing that happened during the OS updates is that my contacts and browser bookmarks double loaded as well. In over 25 years, this has been the worst update situation I've had. But, I love my Macs and this will all correct itself... Buy the way, How can I get rid of the "Smart Mailboxes"?

No, smart mailboxes are showing up on my computer, in my mail. Now I am finding a lot of my mail in these boxes labeled "spam". They are not on my provider's servers. They told me to turn off their filters, which I did, and that cut back on the number of emails labeled spam. But, my email is still making smart mailboxes and putting email in them and marking it spam. This is only happened since I starting using High Sierra 13.6 with the email 11.5.

If you have any ideas...
