how do you get instant preview when looking at a jpeg

Hi when I used to select a jpeg on my Mac I used to get an instant small preview on the right hand side

but now all I get is an “icon of a sea view an upside down glass” But no preview even when I select the different tabs at the top of the page

anyone?

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.15

  1. On your Mac, select one or more items, then press the Space bar.
  2. A Quick Look window opens. If you selected multiple items, the last item you selected is shown first.
