Can nails damage a screen protected by tempered glass?

I use a tempered glass screen, but if I accidentally touch the screen with my fingernail (coated with tempered glass) will the screen still be damaged?

If you use a good tempered glass screen protector (i.e. Spigen or Zagg), your screen should be safe.
