Transfering Macbook Ownership

I have purchased my laptop from my employer and want to sign-in on my Apple ID but it's still using the default version from my previous employer, or rather it doesn't even look like it's signed in, just has their email and name.

Is there a way I can sign them out without having to enter their password? When I click sign out a password prompt appears to remove "find my mac". Screenshot attached if that's helpful but details removed.

Thanks!

Hi,

You should ask for previous owner to do following processes.

Unless required in your country, there is no registration to a specific owner required by Apple. The closest you will come is the purchase receipt that has your name and the Mac's serial number on it. But that's more a business procedure than an ownership proof. Apple has no interest in who has possession of the computer.

Your employer should be able to clear this up. They also should have prepared it for resale or giveaway; apparently they did not.

The first thing I'd do is request them to have their IT department properly prepare it: What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Mac - Apple Support. or whatever procedures they have in place. And since they sell computers, they should be doing this or similar.

Or, you can do it yourself if it will let you.

Thank you for the reply. I'd rather not have to completely reinstall it as it I used it for work / personal during my tenure and now I've backed it up, sent the hard drive to my employer and deleted all work accounts / projects off it the only thing remaining from my employer is the Apple ID.

We're a small, remote company with no IT department so I was basically just handed a laptop and when I set it up I entered the default Contact@ email address of our company but never logged in to the Apple ID as I didn't have the password, nor was my boss bothered. Are you suggesting I can call Apple and have them remotely sign out/transfer? or do I need to ask my boss for the log in? Would rather avoid the latter...
