What is the best alternative to Time Machine backup software?

I just found out trying to restore a critical file from Time Machine backups to discover the entire path was missing from the backup. With further investigation, I found several entire paths missing in my backups. This bug is unacceptable risking the loss of data.

Is there any way to validate backups are valid prior to an attempt to restore a filed, path, or drive?

What were the paths that were not backed up?

Time Machine doesn't back up a lot of things (in Monterey, the entire OS isn't backed up).

How deep is the path. There are limits to path length (I think 1048 bytes). That path is then extended by a couple levels of folders which might prevent it from getting written to backup.
