Every time I turn on the Apple TV it asks for my ICloud Apple ID. I put it in and then it appears to take it as I see my user name appear but it appears in a Sign Out box.
it signs me out from there. What am I doing wrong?

If you see a “Sign out” option on screen, then you are currently signed in, and you wouldn’t want to change that. Use the Menu/Back button to start doing other things.
