Thanks a lot for the information
Up to now I only relinked "desktop" and it worked for some days/weeks (Mac OS 16) but not any more after the last restart, which happened automaticaly after sleeping. (which was the second unplanned restart in one week, which went ok, the first time.)
I do not say "worked fine" because I do not understand why the folders with several tabs are lost after restart. I loved my Mac Pro, really, I started in 1991, before Mac OS and thus had a lot updates. I do not like the changes of the last years. More and more automatic, no more made for persons that want to decide by themselves, IT persons. The most horrible thing is, that the last OS now looks like a mobile phone while I use a big screen.
(This kind of remarks is for the Apple developers.)
Good to know about your experience.
"It is much more difficult to symlink the home directories. It has always been sketchy."
On my Mac studio I have 2TB SSD plus 4x 8TB external HD in a box. In my Mac Pro I used to have 4x 8TB HDs internally (for almost ten years, and could put hardware into it to my wishes). I bought the mac studio end of last year. Desktop is really important for me, else I would have to copy files a hundered times a day. That means I put things on the desktop while working and later transfer it to a folder depending on the work I am doing. I already tell the apps where to store data, but this is not always possible.
I understand I will not change the other folders, even if I do use none of the ready made ones as part of the system.
