Inserting a Date Formula in Numbers Version 12.2.1

How do I insert a formula in a Numbers spreadsheet cell to always show today's date? I tried formula/ DATE but it's not working?

Mac mini (M1, 2020)

=TODAY()

It will update whenever the spreadsheet is opened and whenever a change is made to it.
