Sharing in Pages

What's New in Pages states that I can now share a document in any format directly from the Share menu. I like to write letters in Pages, then send them by email. Usually I Export to either MS Word or to PDF format, then attach them, so sharing directly from Pages seems like a great idea.

However, once in mail, the document is still a Pages document, in spite of Apple's cheery alert. Am I missing something?
