Hi, I got inherited a macbook from my father, and i really want to get access to the device to find old photos and such. Is it possible to get new password for the account?

It is possible to reset the macOS password, but I would not do that until after you have access to the Apple ID (as you can then potentially use the Apple ID to reset the password, and can use that to access iCloud including any use of iCloud Photos)
