Disk utility cannot see a network drive

I have connected a hard drive via the USB socket on my Airport Extreme, to act as a network drive. It appears on my desktops (iMac or MacBook Air) and behaves normally. However, I cannot access it via Disk Utility (Show All Devices is ticked). Is there another setting I need to alter?

Don't think so as I've never been able to access my drive connected to my Airport Extreme via Disk Utility. Tell Apple what missing features you'd like restored or new features added to the system via Feedback - macOS - Apple.
