There is some software that runs on High Sierra, and that might help you extend the useful life of your system.
Free Software and/or Open Source Software
The Firefox Web browser. You can't update Safari without upgrading to a newer version of macOS, but the High Sierra version of Firefox still receives updates on a regular basis. Some Web sites that complain about the High Sierra version of Safari being outdated and unsupported may work better with Firefox.

LibreOffice – a Free and Open Source office suite. Version 7.4.7 will run on High Sierra, although newer versions won't. Version 7.4.7 is currently featured prominently on the downloads page, but might soon rotate off into the archive (see link at bottom of downloads page).

The Pages, Numbers, and Keynote programs that came with your Mac are useful for a lot of things.

GraphicConverter 12 still runs on High SIerra. Usually when people mention it, they say good things about it. You can get it from the developer's Web site or from the Mac App Store, but the developer says that the Mac App Store has some feature restrictions due to Apple's sandboxing rules.

Carbon Copy Cloner and SuperDuper! are widely-used backup programs. I believe that Carbon Copy Cloner 5 runs on High Sierra and that the current version of SuperDuper! does as well.

MacTracker is a free application that will tell you lots of detail on just about every Mac, iPhone, iPad, and iPod which Apple ever made. The Mac version (which runs on High Sierra) is available from the developer's site or from the Mac App Store, and there is also an iOS/iPadOS version that runs on the iPhone and iPad.
