Spotlight not finding apps since Sequoia upgrade - index rebuild temporary

I tried the terminal commands given by others, in this order:

sudo mdutil -E /
sudo mdutil -X /
sudo mdutil -i on /

however, it wasn't until I tried:

sudo mdutil -Ea

that Spotlight showed apps; no reboot performed.

The indexing status for all volumes can be shown with:

sudo mdutil -sa 

Some people find this Terminal command works when the GUI method fails, but I’m pretty certain it does the same thing.

sudo mdutil -E /

Another command will delete the entire index folder. You may have to restart to restart indexing.

sudo mdutil -X /

You can also try restarting the index with,

sudo mdutil -i on /

Neither GUI or Commands work for me.

What happened is after reindexing apps show up in spotlight for a short period. Then, app category disappear from spotlight search results again. Of course, if I restart the mac, it will do indexing automatically. But after a short while, spotlight stop showing apps again.

I am not sure what Sequoia update version you guys are on but noticed this right after I updated to 15.2 a few days ago. Are you all still experiencing the same on 15.2? I tried to remove my startup disk and add it again so it reindexes but this throws up an error saying it could not be performed.

Thank you. I just re-indexed and finally see all of the files that I have been missing! I hope it continues to work but if not, I am going to take in to Apple.

Life without Spotlight has been a real struggle

Seems odd that it reindexes on restart, but I so rarely restart my Macs, I don’t know for sure.

It seems like something is corrupting the index.

15.2 and still with 15.3.1

I am not sure when this started because I have been to busy to deal with it

I ran into an issue with the applications not showing in the results, using the advice in other locations to re-index by adding/removing the disk didn't work, however running your last command to restart the index worked immediately. Hopefully it continues to work :)
