iPhone and Mac calendars don't sync

I have an iPhone 15 running iOS 18.3.2 (22D82) and a MacBook Air running Version 15.3.2 (24D81). The calendars on the two don't quite sync, although most logged activities are OK. What's going on? I've switched them both on and off a number of times, but still no joy.

Iphone calendar will not sync with Mac calendar. Events that I put on to my iPhone calendar do not show up on my iMac calendar and vis a versa. I have checked settings on both devices, and iCloud calendar is toggled on. I'm sure that it is a simple fix for my 82 year old simple mind. Thanks for your thoughts.
