Why does Duolingo silence the ringtone on iPhone 13?

My grandma just got an iPhone13 and every time she changes the volume in Duolingo, it silences the ringtone afterwards. Restarting the phone resets it to normal, but that would be a very annoying solution to do every time. Does anybody know why this happens?
