How to download original HEIC files from iCloud on Windows and Linux?

Am I doing something wrong? When I log in to iCloud with any browser on a Mac, go to the photos, all the photos I download are the original HEIC files, with the original resolution. However, when I log in to iCloud on any other computer with Windows or Linux, with any browser, I get low resolution jpegs.

How can I download the original HEIC file to my Windows and Linux machines?

How are you doing this download? Are you saying that you want the Original versions that have not been edited? In that case are you going to More (•••) >More Download Options>Unmodified Originals?

That will get you the original files in whatever format they were originally saved in.

If you want the edited version, the file type is not connected to the original one at all. What ever format you get is the original format for that edited version.

I'm not sure, since I don't use Windows, but Apple has designed some of its download routines to send pictures in a format that it thinks are most appropriate. This may be in heic for Macs but, since some Windows users have reported that heic isn't recognized on their PCs, I know that the download for some Windows versions avoids the newer format.

Could that be what you're seeing?

Ah, yes! I didn't go into the three little dots, just pressed the cloud with the arrow icon. :-/ On Mac, it downloads a file with original resolution (happens to be heic, but I am not worried about that part), while on other operating systems it downloads a jpeg with lower resolution. I am not worried about the file format, but the resolution.

I was just dumb enough not to go to "More Download Options", what you show is exactly what I was looking for, thank you!
