Disable glass effect in iOS 26 for better battery life

Who thought the glass effect was a good idea? Please add an option to disable it — my eyes aren’t a GPU benchmark, and it murders the battery.

While you cannot turn off Liquid Glass, you can reduce its transparency effect at Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Reduce Transparency.  This removes the translucent "liquid" effect, making UI elements like menus and buttons more solid and easier to read, and reducing the load on the processor and battery usage.

Hello~ Do you have a technical question for us? We are your fellow forum members not Apple so we can only offer our thoughts. If you are unhappy with Apple let them know as the get paid for people to be rude to them unlike we volunteers.

I'll never understand why it's just fine to come here and complain about something like Liquid Glass, but people get their panties in a knot if someone doesn't agree with them. Of course you don't have to like it. I'm just as free to say I like it as you are to say you don't. But eliminate Liquid Glass you simply CANNOT do. So where does that leave you? Arguing what you think Apple should offer, doesn't work here, because this is a user to user only forum, which no one from Apple participates, nor reads for user feedback. You can tell us what you want all day long, but no one here can give you what you want. This is why I wrote a user tip about what you can actually do with settings to better optimize Liquid Glass to better meet your needs. Perhaps you'd like to see what the options are by reading this --> Liquid Glass - Love It Or Hate It - It's … - Apple Community

Reduced transparency actually might drain more battery.

Yes I have seen that video, questionable science, but there is no technical reason for a glassy appearance to use much extra power anyway.

Questionable science indeed! I tested it myself using two iPhone 17 Pro phones. One with Transparency turned on and one with Transparency turned off. In neither phone was battery life diminished or enhanced. Both were connected to Wifi. I do believe that having motion on in Settings > Accessibility > Reduce Motion could have some minor affect on the battery. I personally didn't like the animation, so on my iPhone, Reduce Motion is turned on. Even that in itself should not have a significant impact on the battery.

Just because you don't like something, doesn't mean everyone else doesn't either. I quite like, no, LOVE the new Liquid Glass effect.

On my iPad, this just looks so cool:

You can tone the effect down in Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Turn Reduce Transparency and Increase Contrast off. But turn off Liquid Glass altogether, you cannot.

Please get rid of the Liquid Glass. Or at the bare minimum be able to turn it off. It’s seriously messing with my eye sight It makes all the apps look blurry through my glasses and my eye doctor said this prescription is correct.
Honestly, who thought this was a good idea?!?! Makes me want to switch to android!

I think it's a great idea. But then I'm user like you, just like everyone else who posts on this user to user forum. We aren't Apple. Apple isn't here. No one here can get rid of Liquid Glass. And Apple surely isn't going to get rid of Liquid Glass.

But you can make adjustments and read this ALL the way through to see what might work for you --> Liquid Glass - Love It Or Hate It - It's … - Apple Community

Just so you know, if you update your iPhone, there’s no going back.

This update has caused allot of confusion and has a steep adjustment for many users.

The new user interface is here to stay and has been thoroughly tested throughout the Beta program process.

You can adjust display preferences as well as Accessibility settings to better reflect your needs.

You have the option to provide ⇢ Product Feedback.

If enough requests are made, your feedback might help with future development, like a toggle in the settings.

Good luck! 👋🏼😉

I would like to completely disable the new “glass” feature! It is impossible to see your apps if you put them in folders! The only thing I could figure out is to remove pictures as the background wallpaper and make it a plain screen! Uggg!

I feel your pain. I don’t like seeing a button by looking through another button. There’s a reason why important information in cockpits and on highway signs are opaque (easier and quicker to see).

I do understand that the furniture must be rearranged sometimes. Otherwise it gets boring. We’ve had it good for a while. This simply will not be our time.
