Unable to restore Ipad

My Ipad air 4th generation has been broken for about 3 years now, and last year they managed to repair it due to how bad the damage was. Its been a while and i forgot my passcode so we disabled the ipad to connect to itunes. Itunes would not detect the ipad even though we’ve tried hundreds of different USB cables. I tried using apple devices and it worked, however everytime i tried to restore it, 5 minutes after a notification would pop up saying my ipad cannot be restored. After a few tries i got it to the updating screen but it would stop at least 40% in. This cycle kept on repeating until I eventually gave up. The nearest apple store is 7 hours away, and i dont want to spend lots of money to take it in.

Be aware that an Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) may be much closer to you than your nearest Apple Store:

iPad Repair and Service - Apple Support

Otherwise, you might initially seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page.

Alternatively you can initiate and manage your support cases from another Apple device using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to assist with troubleshooting:
