Resetting my son's iPod touch from a distance?

My young son changed his password without telling an adult, and has also forgotten what he changed it to.

He's living with his mom, but the iPod is synched to my computer, about 6 hours drive away. Is there any way of resetting or unlocking the device (through find my iPhone maybe?) at a distance, or changing/restoring the password to a previous, known one *without having the device at the time*? Otherwise it'll mean he won't be able to contact me until I get the device, reformat it on my machine, and get it back to him, wiped back to the last saved restore...

I think he's already learned his lesson, here, so right now it's damage control. All help will be heartily appreciated.

You can remotely erase it through Find My iPhone as long as its connected to WiFi, however, after its erased it will need to be setup by him physically, you won't be able to remotely set it up again.
