How to update my macbook air from macOS 10.9.5

Hello,

I have a Macbook Air that is currently on MacOS 10.9.5. I am wanting to update my MacOS since many applications do not work with this version any longer. However, I cannot find an update that is close to the 10.9.5. All the updates I have found say "you need to be running macOS ** to install update". Am I able to update my system or will I be stuck on 10.9.5?

Well it all depends on what age your Mac is.

You could upgrade to El Capitan, How to upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support check the compatibility chart, if your Mac can upgrade further than El Capitan then you will be refused it, so you can then install High Sierra,

and if your Mac is young enough you might be able to upgrade to Mojave,

What ever you decide to do read the instructions thoroughly, make a full back up of your Mac.

Check that any third party apps have updates available so they will work in the new OS. And make sure any printers/ scanners etc you use have updated drivers and software available so they will continue to function in the new OS.
