Mac Book Air trackpad not recognizing finger swipes after upgrade from 10.5.5 to Sierra

Trackpad is working fine after upgrade just doesn't recognize commands set up in trackpad. This is the trackpad on the computer itself. Late 2010 Mac Book Air. Any suggestions

Reboot into Safe Mode, and test there. While rebooting into Safe Mode, reset the SMC and NVRAM.

High Sierra would be preferred here too, as most anything that can run Sierra can also run High Sierra. (Your title indicates Sierra, though this is posted to the High Sierra forum. If you’re already on High Sierra, please ignore this.)
