Preparing for New IMac

(1) Do I transfer all of my apps and data to the new IMac THEN delete from old one?

(2) Do I need to have old one connected to internet to complete these tasks?

Dennis is correct about connecting your old Mac's Time Machine backup EHD to the new Mac. Please connect the EHD via a USB cable, why , because it works and it's the most reliable method. Do this prior to turning on the new Mac. When you turn on the new Mac it will launch Setup Assistant and eventually get to a point where it asks if you are migrating from another Mac. Select "yes and follow the on-screen prompts. It's really that simple. NEVER EVER try to migrate using Wi-Fi it will take weeks (no I am not exaggerating) and it will fail!

There are several different ways to move from the old to new Mac. However the faster and most reliable way, is to just connect your current Time Machine backup to the new Mac and migrate from it during the initial setting up.

I third the idea of using a TIme Machine backup, it's the fastest way. As far as Applications is concerned all Apple apps will be new but third party apps may not transfer, especially if they need activation codes.
