I have a MacBook Pro 13" 2017.

You now know how to open AirPort Utility on your Mac.

I wanted to try check for updates for the timecapsule

Open AirPort Utility on your Mac and click on the picture of the Time Capsule. A smaller window will appear. If there is an update for the Time Capsule, it will appear as an Update button......something like the example below. Click on the Update button to update the firmware on the Time Capsule.

and also try to reset it before I give up on it.

If you reset the Time Capsule back to its default settings, then you will need to set it up again from scratch. While you can do this, there is no guarantee that things will work any better. The only exception to this might be if you have changed a number of settings on the Time Capsule and things are really messed up and you want to start all over again.

If you want to reset the Time Capsule back to its default settings, make sure that the Time Capsule is powered on, then hold in the reset button on the back of the Time Capsule (near the AC cord socket) for 7-8 seconds. Release the button after that time and give the Time Capsule a full minute to restart again.

they said open the Airport Utility and then open Airport Utility for Me.

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as "AirPort Utility for Me" in any version of AirPort Utility. Maybe "they"....whoever they might be......were referring to something else. We're not going to try to guess.

If you have a Mac that has been offered in the last 6-7 years, AirPort Utility is already installed on your Mac, since it is part of the Mac operating system.

Look in Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility

If you are asking about AirPort Utility for the iPhone or iPad, you can download this version from the App Store. To do that, tap on App Store on the Home Screen. Tap Search at the bottom of the next screen and enter AirPort Utility.

Unfortunately, Apple has not updated this version for a number of years, since it was designed to work with Windows 7. It may or may not work on newer versions of Windows.

Let's start with what is the make & model of your computer and which version operating systems is it running. By default, Mac computers will have the AirPort Utility pre-installed. This would not be the case for Windows-based computers.

Just search for it by using the magnifying glass icon in the top right hand corner.
