I am trying to add a mail account to my mac.
The account works fine on my iPhone, iPad and online.
The account is a Godaddy account.
I go to the mail. I select mail in the top menu.
I select other mail account.
I type in the email address and password.
The following error message occurs 'Unable to verify account name or password'
Has anybody had this situation before and no what to do.

Do not take that Literally. Mail only knows the server did not respond, it does NOT know why.

If it "can not verify..." sometimes you just need to enter a different server address or something that mail settings lookup tells you about. (For example, EarthLink uses a different smtp server name, and you enter that name on the second screen that comes up.)

This added no value. I have several email address set up on my mail account including google, work exchange, name cheap and iCloud. I can setup email accounts. I had this email account with Godaddy working last Saturday. I uninstalled the account on Monday and went to reinstall the account immediately and it says the password in not recognised. But the password is recognised on the iPhone iPad and webmail but will not be recognised when I go to setup email in the mail account on the Mac book pro.
this is what that site told me:
Those server hostnames are NOT the defaults. Enter them on the screen when it says your username/password was refused.

Not sure whether GoDaddy supports IMAP, you may need to choose POP.
Thank you picking POP and having the correct name for the pop server has resolved the problem.
I have saved the screen shot of the setup.

That was the screen and the error message but all resolved once I followed your instructions and used the pop server.
