'Unexpected error has occured' when opening Photos app after the latest OSX update

Hello,

Today I tried opening Photos app on my MBP (running Mojave) and the library started updating, but after getting to 83% the app crashed with the message in the title. I tried some steps I found online, but to no avail. I also tried restarting my computer, it didn't help. It crashes every time it gets to 83%.

Should I reset the library and hope that I don't lose the photos, or is there any other workaround? The OS was updated few days ago and this was the first time I tried opening the app after the update (it worked normally before).

Thank you in advance for your help,

kind regards

I would try first, if Photos is working at all, if you create a new, empty library. You can create a new library, if you hold down the options key ⌥ while launching Photos. Keep holding down the key until the Library Chooser dialog appears, then select to create a new library in your Pictures folder and test a bit.

If that works, switch back to your main library by double clicking it. Is it working now?

If not, your current library is the problem. Where is your library stored? Is it in your Pictures folder or on an external volume?

Hey, thank you for your reply.

I did what you suggested and, using the newly created library, the app seems to work normally. I tried switching back to my system library and it still doesn't work and I get the same error message.

This system library is stored in my Pictures folder and I've never tampered with any of its files, so I really have no idea what could've caused the problem.
