Screen Recording not working properly in iOS 13 13.1.2

Hey there! There seems to be an issue when trying to use Screen Recording since the iOS 13 update. From time to time, when I try to record something on my iPhone it suddenly stops recording and/or resets the Microphone. Also if I'm listening to music, it will record the music and not my voice anymore, in iOS 12 this didn't happen.

Yup. Same thing has been happening to me as well since updating to iOS 13 and I’m on the latest version (13.1.2) and it’s still happening. Very unreliable. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Just stops recording intermittently at random points after the recording was started. No error message is ever displayed and the partial recording is never saved.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! I understand since upgrade the iOS on your iPhone, the Screen Recording isn't working as expected. This is a great feature, and I definitely want to make sure you're able to use it without issue.


If you haven't already done so, let's test if this behavior continues after restarting your device. Use the steps to restart here: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch


You may also consider updating the iOS on your device to the latest version of iOS 13. You can see how to do that here: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch


I would also like to get a bit more information so we can continue working toward a resolution. Can you please answer the following?


Does this behavior happen with in all apps, or only some?


When Screen Recording does stop, is there an error? If so, what's that error say?


Does this behavior happen on both Wi-Fi and cellular data?

This behavior still continues after restarting the device, I even erased all content and settings and still happens. I'm running iOS 13.1.2 so I'm up to date. Here you have my answers to your questions:


  1. Yes, this behavior happens within all apps. I found out that several people are having the same issue around the world.
  2. When Screen Recording stops there is no error, it just only stops out of the sudden.
  3. Yes, this happens both on Wi-Fi and cellular data.

I’m experiencing the same problem. I’ve tried every solution I could find, but nothing has fixed screen recording’s unreliability. Is there a third party app I can download? I have to be able to record some game play for YouTube, and it’s incredibly frustrating when I’ve spent over an hour playing a game only to find that my phone stopped recording at some point with neither rhyme nor reason. (The frustration is exacerbated when the events in said game can’t be re-played or they’re on a timer. I’ve tried recording this one fight for two weeks now. 🤦🏻‍♀️)

It is sad how unreliable iOS screen recording has been, really from the very beginning. Limitations on what can be recorded or broadcast and buggy or broken features. Apple should think about giving up and letting third party apps have more control so the end users can just create content rather than surfing the internet looking for answers as to why the feature of iOS screen recording just doesn’t work right.
