Notes app on iPhoneX not syncing with iCloud, but iPad Pro is syncing

I am having trouble with the Notes app the past few days. In settings I turned off Notes and then back on. I did this for my iPad and my iPhone. My iPad synced with the cloud. My iPhone did not sync with iCloud. I deleted the Notes app and reinstalled it and now it won’t sync folders for iCloud or other mail accounts (i.e. gmail).

Since then I have tried turning Notes off in the Settings on my phone. It warns me that it will delete the files on my phone but not in iCloud. I proceed, close the app, then reopen the app after a few seconds. It creates some of the folders but none of the notes, except for a shared note with a shared account in calendar.

I am at a loss.

Solved - Apple Care helped me. Here are the steps we took: log out of Apple ID, log back in, turn off WiFi, close all apps, turn on WiFi, open notes, close notes completely, open notes again. Then it started syncing. On my Mac devices, I need to completely close the Notes app and then open it again and hopefully they will sync. It worked for one Mac device.

I hope this works for you David.

I also seem to be having a similar problem. As of around the 19th October, notes I add to the ‘iCloud’ section of the Notes app on my iPhone X (running 12.4.1) do not sync to my other Apple devices (an iPad 4 and an iPad Pro and my MacBook Pro).

However, and this is the really confusing part ... if I add notes to one of my other devices, they immediately sync onto the Notes app on my iPhone! It’s as if data is being allowed to go one way but not the other!

My iPhone does keep warning me that my iCloud storage is full, but it’s been saying that for years and it’s never affected the ability for Notes to sync correctly.

I’ve tried restarting the iPhone, but I’ve stopped short of turning Notes off in the iCloud settings ... and from the sounds of it this won’t help matters based on your experience above, Alma.

Any thoughts on what might be causing these issues?

Many thanks,

David

David, I am on iOS 13.2 on my iPhone. Now that you mention the one-way sync, it seems like it may have done that for a while as well. It could be a download problem from iCloud, which would make sense considering that my Notes app on my phone wk t download the data in iCloud. I logged into iCloud on a web browser and verified that the data is there. It is also downloading to MacOS and even iPad iOS.

What other devices is it downloading to for you?

I'm also happy to report that my phone is now syncing again with all my devices 🙂My solution was just to sign out of iCloud on my iPhone and then sign in again. I was avoiding doing this at first as I was worried I might lose notes which hadn't already been synced to iCloud ... but I was just fed up of it not working so I went ahead anyway – and I'm pleased I did!

Glad to hear your problem has been solved too! 😀
