Sharring an album in Photos

Can anyone help please? In Photos, how do I share a folder that contains several individual albums? I know how to share an album, but can't see any way to share a folder! Thank you

You can create shared albums, but sharing a folder of albums is not supported in Phots. You will have to create a shared album for each album in the folder you want to share.

There is one problem with shared albums. The size of the photos will be reduced to at most 2048 pixels at the longest edge. The quality will be less than in your Photos Library and the titles and other metadata will be missing.

If you want to share the photos in the full quality and preserve the titles and location information, I would simply export the photos from each album to a folder on your Mac, then copy them to a thumbs drive and give the thumbs drive to your partner.

To export the albums,

  • select the folder with the albums "Albums" view.
  • Then select all albums at once by dragging the pointer across the albums or export each album separately to a separate folder.
  • Use the command "File > Export > Export .. items"
  • Set the export preferences to "Full Size" and a high quality.

On a side note: In future, after the Catalina upgrade, you will be able to share folders with photos directly on iCloud Drive. This is described here: macOS Catalina - Features - Apple

iCloud Drive folder sharing*

You can now share folders with a private link. Anyone who has access can see the folder in iCloud Drive, add new files, and get the latest versions of files.

The footnote * says "* Coming this spring."

This will make it much easier to use iCloud Drive to share documents and data.
