Cannot run Apple Hardware Test, MBPr, High Sierra 10.13.6

My MBPr has been acting a bit funky lately. Sometimes Finder windows will leave the topmost item out of reach unless the window is expanded. It could not put some simple screenshots in the trash. Other oddities. I ran Safe Boot, and First Aid from Disk Utility, SMART status was verified.

While on wifi, I tried to run Apple Hardware Test with a restart while pressing D and it would not load. Result:

Starting Internet Recovery

This may take a while

Choose Network and enter password

Error: 0x8000000000000003, Cannot load 'EFI/Driver/TestSupport.efi'

Status: 0x00000003

Ethernet cable connected. Tried again, same result.

Tried again using option-D during restart, same result.

There is no .diagnostics folder in System/Library/CoreServices, so after determining the model and board ID,

MacBookPro10,1 Mac-C3EC7CD22292981F

I downloaded the appropriate one here:

https://github.com/upekkha/AppleHardwareTest

Command-Shift-Dot reveals the .diagnostics folder on the Desktop

several Terminal attempts to move this file also fail

I haven't been able to place this "invisible" file the the folder. Perhaps my Terminal commands are wrong?

HELP, please.

MacBook Pro 15", macOS 10.13

OK thanks BD Aqua

Unable to launch Apple Diagnostics--apparently there are 445 "I have this question too" here as well as 15 pages of more whining like mine

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250285425

apparently Terminal commands are useless

It is simply that the AHT no longer can be used, period.

Firmware updates have messed up trying to run Diagnostics on older Macs. :(

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

EtreCheck is a simple little app to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac.

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report...

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck.

Hiya BDAqua

Thanks for a quick reply.

Since my problem is I cannot run Apple Hardware Test, I don't see how I could attempt it while in Safe Boot, if that is your suggestion. Perhaps hold Shift and D on restart??? I did do several Safe Boots, as I said in the original post.

Do you have a Terminal command that would work for me to move the .diagnostics folder into the System/Library/CoreServices folder?

or are you saying Hardware diagnostics just won't work anymore, no matter what?

Here's the pastebin for both the EtreCheck report and the SMART report for the disk:

Still trying Terminal with new results

Macs-MacBook-Pro:~ MBPr$ mv ~/Desktop/.diagnostics MacintoshSSD/System/Library/CoreServices

mv: rename /Users/MBPr/Desktop/.diagnostics to MacintoshSSD/System/Library/CoreServices: No such file or directory

Macs-MacBook-Pro:~ MBPr$

so I moved the .diagnostics folder into my Documents

~/Documents/.diagnostics MacintoshSSD/System/Library/CoreServices

-bash: /Users/MBPr/Documents/.diagnostics: is a directory

Macs-MacBook-Pro:~ MBPr$

i.e. .diagnostics is a folder, correct. So why doesn't this command move the folder as requested?
