Mac Pro 2019 Migration Issues

Setting up new 16 core Mac Pro 2019 and attempting to transfer data from Mac Pro 2013 running Mojave 10.14.6

Posed this to Apple who has yet to offer anything constructive, so trying the community.

During set up, attempted to migrate a Carbon Copy Cloner cloned disk. Reached point of Looking For Files... and then hung. After several attempts, gave up and figured I would let the machine start up and use Migration Assistant.

Migration Assistant consistently hangs whether using a CCC clone or a fresh Time Machine backup and always at the same place "Looking For.." It recognizes the disk, user/folder structure, users, etc etc and then as it starts the process it hangs.

Apple suggested I take the trash can 2013 to Catalina 10.15.2. Same thing.

Today I tried connecting the two machines via Thunderbolt in target mode. Same hang at the same place.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Right now I have a $15,000 piece of decorative aluminum.

Fixed it. Migrated and now typing happily on the 16 core. Before I called Apple today, just on a lark did a get info on the Mac hard drive. Showed 1.5tb used out of 2 tb. Impossible. When I spoke to Apple tech, he decided to look at Users. Each time the migration failed, it nonetheless created a user and copied data into it. So there was 1.25 tb of user data. At that point, decided best thing to do was erase disk and reinstall Catalina. That took maybe 45 minutes and began a migration within Setup Asst. After about an hour, my screen went black and wouldn't wake up. But computer was still running and indicator light on backup drive flashing. So I let it go for 5 hours or so and returned to find the rest of set up ready to go. Entered passwords and up and running. No idea why failed in the first place but each successive try compounded the problem.
