Stolen MacBook serial tracing

My Mac Book was stolen and when looking on Find My Phone, I can see that they have already gone in and changed my Mac's name. The notice for it being online came on but was only on for a second to 2 then the new name appeared. I'm assuming they have formatted the machine now, but is there no way of registering the serial number with Apple for future blocking and/ tracing when new owner tries to use the machine?

Apple is not in the computer tracking and recovery business. It would take manpower and time to do such a task. Then there are the legal issues. What if your disgruntled significant other told Apple that you stole their computer and Apple disabled or blocked it? I could envision a lawsuit against Apple. What about disgruntled employees? There are many reasons why Apple should not get into the police or other agency business.
