MacPro Book DVD wont do. Anything

Put home movies on DVD-R disc. Plays on other DVD players. Put DVD-R disc in MacPro Book and nothing happens. Tried to find DVD nothing. It does play CD’s . Help please. i want to copy DVD to USB. Nina

Sounds like the DVD super drive has failed.
