Transferring data/files from mac air to Mac Pro
I own a macbook air and want to buy a macbook pro. What cable do I need to connect the two [and transfer data]? And is it a complicated process?

I understand that you wish to buy a MacBook Pro and would like to move your data from your MacBook Air to it. It is not a complicated process. Please review this article by Apple ➔ How to move your content to a new Mac- Apple Support. It contains all they information that you need including a detailed process. Good Luck.

Axel pointed you to Migration Assistant, one of my favorite features of the Mac. While you can probably find a cable to connect the two computers it is something you’ll probably only use once. By the time you need to migrate again a totally different cable will be necessary. (Been there, done that!) However one thing won’t change. Everyone needs a good backup drive for TimeMachine (another of my favorite Mac features) and it is the perfect device for migrating. Best of all, even you have to go out and purchase a backup drive you’ll be able to use it on the new computer so it wont be a one use purchase.
thanks so much .... I'll check out the link.
Best,
Michael
You are welcome.
