I am unable to sign into using my Apple ID to Mac running OSX 10.9.5 Mavericks

I am unable to sign into using my Apple ID to Mac running OSX 10.9.5 Mavericks. My phone gets a 2 factor prompt but there is nowhere to enter the verification code. I have seen threads suggesting to restart System Preferences in order to see the box but this doesn't seem to make any difference. Im going around in circles. I just want to be able to sign into the App store in order to update to latest OSX. Seem impossible. Have I left it too late to update?

Hello,

This sounds like it is related to Two-Factor Authentication. You will need to generate a secure code from another device and type it after your password. Example: password123456
