Screen Flickering

Hi All,

I have had this issue since I purchased my brand new Mac Book Pro in 2017 (2017 Model), when I watch videos full screen it flickers. Is there any way we can get this rectified? I had a potential buyer and when I showed him he declined to purchase because of this fault. Safe to say I have to hold off purchasing a new Mac Book till I can sell this one.

Thank you!

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

If you have not Reset the SMC by following the directions applicable to your MacBook Air here ➔ How to Reset SMC. Then try watching the videos in full screen. See if that helps.

Furthermore, open Google Chrome and from its preferences turn Hardware Acceleration OFF. Then watch videos in full screen again and see if that takes care of things.

It could be a hardware issue however we don't enough yet to conclude in that direction.

How about trying a couple of more things such as:

  1. Reset NVRAM/PRAM by following the directions applicable to your MacBook here ➔ How to Reset NVRAM/PRAM. If that does not solve things then-
  2. Enter ➔ Safe Mode and see if the screen flicker issue still exists in Safe mode. Log out of Safe Mode and then reboot computer. If that does not solve things then-
  3. Finally if none of the above works then you can enter ➔ macOS Recovery Mode and reinstall the macOS and see if that solves it.

Hi Axel,

I have done that reset again - to no success.

I do not use Google Chrome - I use Mozilla Firefox but I don't think that should make a difference, should it? Even when I did attempt to use Chrome and Safari I am still getting the same issue. I am getting with VLC player and Apple Quick Time player also.

Could this be a hardware fault?
