When trying to drag and drop images from Photos to my desktop, Photos freezes. It won't do anything until I force close Photos. The problem appears less when trying to drop an unedited image on my desktop for some reason. Edited images almost always freeze Photos.
Any idea what might be causing this?

I experience Photos freezing occasionally when I drag multiple photos from a smart album to a normal album, which I realise is not the same as your situation. I can avoid freezing in my case by using the contextual menu "Add to..." to move the photos to the album instead of dragging them.
Therefore, I would recommend that instead of dragging the images to your desktop, use the "Export" menu item to export the images to your desktop. This will accomplish the same thing, but hopefully it won't cause Photos to freeze. Good luck.

I am glad to help. I hope this forum becomes less busy after macOS 11 is released. But that is probably just wishful thinking.
