I can't change the port for outgoing Mail on my iPad

When I try to change the outgoing port on my iPad 2, all I get is "Verifying" and a spinning ball.

I've tried this with SSL checked and not checked.

As a result of having the wrong port number, I can receive emails, but cannot send them.

I've tried deleting the account and re-entering it. That does no good.

I've tried re-entering the server information. No dice.

What else can I do to change the port # for outgoing Mail?

iPad 2, iOS 9

If manually configuring email settings, you need to configure both your SMTP (outgoing) and IMAP/POP3 (incoming) server settings:

Settings > Passwords & Accounts > [Your email account] > [Account] >

As described, your incoming server settings are likely to be correct - but Pay your SMTP Primary Server Settings are not. Also note that you incoming and outgoing server Passwords, although very likely to be the same, are configured separately.
