Are automatically deleted Text Messages still stored in iCloud?

If I free space on my iPhone by setting it up so text messages over a year old are automatically deleted, are those older texts still backed up in iCloud or are they deleted in iCloud at the same time? I want to have them backed up in iCloud but delete from my phone.

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 13

They will only be stored in the iCloud backup until the next time that you backup with iCloud. For instance, if you delete messages today and then backup tonight, those messages can’t be included in the backup because they are gone now.

iCloud makes a backup of the current content on your device. It does not save older content.
